Implementation of Xchanger Systems with Loxone Technology

Overview

Project: Implementation of Xchanger Systems with Loxone Technology

Location: Various locations across the UK, from Pembrokeshire to Edinburgh

The brief:

Since early 2018, CES has been tasked with providing electrical implementation for Xchanger systems across UK dairies. These systems use advanced heat pump technology to recycle heat from cooling processes, improving energy efficiency and supporting renewable energy targets.

The challenge:

Prior to CES’s intervention, the Xchanger systems had limited functionality concerning remote access and control, crucial for managing units distant from Xchanger’s Shropshire base. The existing systems lacked efficient remote maintenance capabilities needed due to the widespread geographic installation up to 300 miles away.

The solution:

CES partnered with Loxone to enhance the automation capabilities of the Xchanger systems. This included integrating remote alarm notifications via emails and push notifications, real-time monitoring of electrical consumption and heat energy output, and sophisticated control over heating and cooling circuits via the Loxone app. These modifications utilised Loxone’s customisable control systems, providing precise solutions tailored to each site.

Project timeline:

  • First project initiated in early 2018.
  • To date, CES has upgraded six sites to Loxone powered Xchanger systems.
  • CES continues to service all its installed Xchanger systems on previous sites.

Key project highlights:

  • Implementation of remote diagnostic and control capabilities.
  • Real-time monitoring and automation of energy consumption and heat production.
  • Customised app interfaces for farm owners to manage heating effectively.

Why this project stands out:

Significant impact on energy efficiency and management in dairy farms, aligning with the UK’s green energy goals. It showcases how technology can transform traditional industries to be more sustainable and efficient and exemplifies the effective collaboration between technological innovation and traditional farming practices, paving the way for smarter, more sustainable agricultural solutions.

The ability to monitor and control systems remotely is particularly beneficial, ensuring quick responses to issues and optimal operation without needing to travel significant distances.
